Events

One of the best parts of my job is planning and executing events. Pop Ups. Long Table feasts. Grazing Tables. Cooking Classes. Polentanas. Any kind of party really. I was born to hostess, but when I get to cook too, I really enjoy myself. Here in Australia is the only time that I have collaborated with folks that don’t cook my way. It is exhilarating!!! I have had many opportunities to share in some next level festivals and banquets. It has given me so much insight in the way Australians celebrate and commemorate.

The last event that I collaborated on was a Sunday lunch and farewell to the Tassie institution Oddfellows. I met Ned years back when we collaborated on a ring of fire cooking set up for our infamous Winter festival Dark Mofo. He reminds me so much of my beloved baby brother Reasie, that I let him get away with mischief. He has talked me into the fiddliest canapés, and biggest outdoor spectacles I have done here in Oz. When he decided to put down Tassie roots with his gorgeous partner Kachina, Wild Grove Farm was born. They grow incredible produce, produce fermented treasures, raise chickens, and just this year pigs. We shared the honor of curating this feast around their first pig, Jackie Brown. We all thought it was a best way to say goodbye to the restaurant and to mark Wild Grove Kitchen’s success in pig rearing. Bittersweet in so many ways, Y’all. Bittersweet.

Photographer Jonathan Wherrett came to capture the day. He found so many gorgeous moments of the day. As you enjoy them, please spare a thought for those of us who host your events, mix your drinks, pour your pints, brew your coffee, cook your meals, and keep it all going in front and behind the scenes.
