HC’s Spicy Ginger Tea


  • Ingredients
  • 8 c. water
  • 6 inches fresh ginger
  • Zest and juice of a lime
  • * Optional 1 ½ teaspoons of cayenne, 1 cinnamon stick, 10 cloves
  • **sweeten to taste with either honey or raw sugar if you like


  • Instructions
  • Peel the ginger and cut into thin slices to expose more ginger to the water.
  • Place all (spices if using) sliced ginger in a pot, cover with cool water and simmer for at least 25 minutes. Filter through a strainer (or just pour the tea off - you barely need the strainer).
  • Add lime zest and juice and sweeten if you like

  • * More ginger definitely makes it spicier!
  • * Boiling the ginger right in the water makes a much darker tea with more intense flavor as compared to steeping in hot water, and obviously longer time also increases the flavor.
